A parent must be able to recognize the main signs that a child will display when being
bullied in school. First, a child will become withdrawn when being bullied at school. If your child was actively involved in sports, music or dance and suddenly loses interest in these activities a bully may be in their lives. Some children stop talking to peers and family members instead staying in their room or listening to the
ipod constantly. This sudden change in character is a sign that the child is experiencing turmoil in their lives. Bullying at school can cause this type of change in your child. As a parent you need to talk to your child and ask them if they are being bullied at school or online. Ask them what you can do to help. Find out where they are being bullied and them discuss the
options on how to correct the problem with the bully. Children that are being harassed at school need to know that there are options available to them. They need to know that they do not have to live in fear of being bullied.
The second sign you might notice in a child being bullied is behavior changes. Many children that are being bullied become depressed but some become angry. They show this by taking out their aggression on their siblings and family. If your child is suddenly being disciplined in school or at home find out what has changed in their lives. Ask about bullies or harassment. Ask if there are things being posted on the web or twitter about them. Ask them to show you how they are being bullied. Attitude and behavioral changes are prominent in a child that is being bullied.
A third sign that a child is being bullied is appearance. If you have noticed that your child is coming home dirty or clothes being torn or stained then you need to ask some questions. Has your child changed their appearance from one style to another. Why? Sometimes children change their styles to fit into a peer group but many times styles are changed because of a bully.
Talking to your children about bullies is something every parent should do. Let your children know that you are there to help them in any way you can. Explain that their are
options that can stop a bully in their tracks. If there is derogatory information being posted on the internet let them know that you will help get it removed. The most important thing you can do for a child that is being bullied is let them know you
love them.
